An effort that few will remember is the production of an electric vehicle by the Germans, in the recent relatively past. Mercedes entered the process of constructing an electrically powered mini bus to serve the spectators of the Munich Olympic Games in 1972.
This unique mini bus was designed to help with the movement of thousands of spectators who arrived in Munich to enjoy the “Olympic Ideas”. The Mercedes LE 306 has had impressive autonomy for the season, despite its unrealistic weight, if we take into account its passengers. It could travel up to 100 km with a maximum speed of 80 km/h, with Varta batteries.
Batteries had a total weight of 860 kg, with a capacity of 22kWh. The mini bus was powered by a DC electric motor up to 56 kW (76 horsepower), and there was a power recovery system.
