Mercedes is expanding the electrification with hybrid all new models from 2021. German car-maker unveiled a few days ago the brand new GLS but one news that probably went unnoticed during the revelation of the large, German SUV, is the addition of a mild-hybrid version of the twin-turbo V8. A version that, according to the head of Mercedes-AMG, is probably a foretaste of the future.
The principle has already been made with the AMG series “53” combining a 3-liter, six-cylinder gasoline engine with a 48V architecture. Now, the same thing, the GLS 580 is doing with the mild-hybrid V8 while the whole world is waiting for the ultimate “One” to make available the technology currently in Formula One, literally, to a few lucky ones.
