The Geneva Motor Show, which opens the gates on March 3, will debut the production model of the Aiways U5. Chinese Aiways will be the first startup to bring a model to the European market. Sales from the electric SUV are expected to officially begin in April 2020.
Electric Aiways U5 has elegant exterior design but in Europe it will face quite a strong competition. Audi E-tron, Mercedes-Benz EQC, Tesla Model X, will be the SUVs it will find in front of it. However, the U5 will have a fairly competitive price offering capable features.
It will offer autonomy of 460 km per charge, yielding 190 horses with 315 Nm of torque. It also has a system with a “portable” battery, which increases the autonomy for an additional 100 km. Inside it has all the necessary entertainment systems as well as a 12.3-inch touchscreen.
Aiways was founded in 2017 by Gary Gu and Samuel Fu, employing 1,100 people. The basic U5 version will start at 25,000 euros. And it will also be 1,000 euros cheaper than the matching model where sell in China.
