All-new Fiat 500e with 199 miles range

Fiat 500e is the FCA Group’s first pure electric model, which combines style, advanced technology, compact external dimensions. Aesthetically, the new 500e retains all the elements that made the previous generation so recognizable which was presented in 2007.

Fiat’s new small vehicle maintains similar proportions and compact external dimensions. More specifically, the length is 3,63 m (60 mm), the width 1,69 m (60 mm), the height 1,48 m and the wheelbase is 2,32 m (20mm) with a positive impact on the cabin areas.

The 500e will initially be available in convertible version, while closed versions will follow later. At the front remain the characteristic double round headlamps that feature beautiful LED graphics. In place of the FIAT signal on the short muzzle, we now find the inscription 500 with two strips of chrome on each side.

The new 500 generation has cleaner lines with slightly inflated wings and more discreet handles on the large doors. As far as the profile is concerned, there are no large differences other than the windows with the chrome frame.

It has large-diameter wheels, and the charging socket is where the petrol door used to be. At the back the bumper has a simple design and the boot door has a retro swell over the licence plate.

Fiat’s new pure electric car has an electric motor with a performance of 118 PS (87 kW). For 0-100km/h it takes 9 sec, for 0-50 km/h in 3.1 sec, while the top speed is electronically limited to 150 km/h.

The lithium battery mounted on the floor of the car has a capacity of 42 kWh and allows autonomy of up to 320 km or 199 miles (WLPT) on each charge. With the 85kW fast charger, the battery takes 35 minutes to reach 80% of its energy.

The driver can choose between three drive modes – Normal ( normal mode), Range (driving only with the accelerator pedal) and Sherpa (special power-saving mode to get the vehicle to the nearest charging station).

Inside the 500e stands out from more premium features and better materials for wallpapers. On the dashboard there is the main screen, a digital instrument panel with a round shape, a beautiful two-spokes steering wheel and a leather bezel.

The 10.25″ central touch screen hosts the new version of the UConnect 5 update and entertainment system. This system supports wireless mirroring for smartphones via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto (soon) and also accepts voice commands.

The new Fiat 500e is the first car in the category with autonomous level 2 driving with intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control (iACC). This automatically adjusts the speed depending on the vehicle in front by checking for obstacles, pedestrians or cyclists, via a special camera, while the route retention system follows the lane.

The price of the rich “La Prima” edition of the new 500 will start at €37,900 in Italy. Alongside the new generation, the production and disposal of the current 500 will continue as a more affordable alternative for those who are not ready to abandon the thermal motor.
