New BMW i4 was revealed by the German company in the production version and will be 85% the same as the concept, presenting the first electric sedan in its history. As expected, the front is characterized by the new and controversial mask with the vertically placed “kidneys”, according to the standards of Series 4, M3/M4 and iX.
Here of course it has no air ducts, but it acts as a cover for radar and sensors of electronic systems. Unlike the iX, in i4 the design review piece is expected to be limited to the mask.
The rest of the bodywork is particularly tasteful, featuring proportions of a four-door coupe and essentially reminiscent of a sedan version of the 4 Series (electric Gran Coupe is characterized by Bavarians). The trademark blue color on the outline of the “kidneys”, low on the side and the spreader, along with the aerodynamically designed rims, complete the visual set of the i4.
For the interior we do not have an image, but since the new iDrive 8 will be standard the two screens of 12.3 inches (for the digital dashboard) and 14.9 inches (for the multimedia system), will impress.
In mechanical parts, the i4 is driven by fifth generation BMW eDrive technology. Details will be announced in the coming weeks, with Munich currently stating that the electric Gran Coupe will be available in a wide range of versions, with a performance of up to 530 horsepower and a range of up to 590 km. The acceleration of 0-100 km/h is in the range of 4 seconds, for the top version, and the top speed is estimated at over 200 km/h.
- Full electric BMW 7 Series will be included in new lineup
- Electric BMW iNext will have smart glass windows
The BMW i4 will be manufactured from 2021 at the company’s main factory in Munich, where among other things the BMW 3 Series Sedan is manufactured with conventional thermal engine and plug-in hybrid system, the BMW 3 Series Touring with conventional drive system and from the summer of 2020 and with plug-in hybrid drive, the BMW 4 Series Coupé and the BMW M4 Coupé.
