The new Audi Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron were officially revealed by the German company and have a modern and futuristic design at the same time. At the front you can see the closed large mask while the headlights are LED technology and optionally there is the LED Matrix technology. At the back, Audi’s design philosophy remains in the new electric models, but a strip of light connects the luminaires to each other.
Particular attention was also paid to aerodynamics, since the drag factor in the Q4 e-tron reaches 0.28 while in Sportback it reaches an even lower value, just 0.26. Prospective buyers of the new Audi Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron will have the choice between 8 colors as well as the new aurora metallic hue. Both electric models also use Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform since it has been designed for electric vehicles from the outset.
As far as the interior is concerned, the dashboard is facing the driver and has two screens, while impressive is the decorative lining frame on the passenger side, which will be optionally available with an advanced “artificial fabric” containing a percentage of recycled materials.
The new steering wheel also features touch surfaces where through them the driver can choose functions related to the digital instrument display while Infotainment and navigation operate on the MMI central touchscreen, which measures from 10.1 inches to 11.6 inches. The augmented reality head-up displays the information provided by some of the driver assistance systems and navigation symbols in the real outside world in the driver’s field of view.
For both models Audi offers 2 battery capacities where the Q4 35 e-tron has a net energy capacity of 52 kWh while for the Q4 40 e-tron and Q4 50 e-tron quattro 77 kWh capacity. Also the Q4 35 e–tron and the Q4 40 e-tron have an electric motor that moves the rear wheels, with a power of 170 hp and 204 hp respectively. The top version Q4 50 e-tron quattro has two electric motors for electric drive on all 4 wheels (Quattro). Its offer a maximum power of 299 horsepower, which ensures acceleration of 0-100 km/h in 6.2 seconds and electronically limited top speed of 180 km/h.
To make the greatest optimization of energy efficiency, the front engine is activated only when the car needs high power and traction. Optional heat pump uses discarded heat from high voltage units and ambient air for climate control indoors. This helps to increase the degree of energy efficiency, especially on longer routes. As far as autonomy is concerned now, it can reach 520 km. ( WLTP measurement).
The battery can accept up to 7.4 kW AC charging and up to 100 kW when using high power charging with DC. As standard, the larger battery allows up to 11 kW with AC and up to 125 kW for high power charging. According to Audi, with 10 minutes to plug in, it has a range of 130 km.
Suspension with damping control where it is an option for all engine versions, provides more flexibility when moving. Audi’s compact electric SUVs incorporate many driver assistance systems as standard, such as predictive efficiency assist, which supports a driving style that optimizes energy consumption.
The new Audi Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron will be released on European roads in early and late summer respectively.
