The BMW i4 M50 is based on the CLAR platform which also hosts the 3 Series and all the newer BMW models. The length of 4,785 meters combined with the platform collateral and the ultra-thin lithium-ion batteries placed under the passenger compartment promise to maximize the available spaciousness and practicality, as shown by the capacity of 470 liters of the trunk.
Initially the i4 will be available in a basic version with eDrive 40 badges and rear-wheel drive as required by BMW delivery and in another with M badges which will be four-wheel drive and promises high performance.
The strongest i4 M50 version which will be available as standard with the M Sport equipment package features a twin electric motor, one for each axle, which combined with 544 horsepower. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h takes just 3.9 seconds while the maximum speed is 230 km/h. The autonomy in this version is 510 km. while in terms of recharging the batteries requires 31 minutes in a 200 kW fast charger.
The M50 also features in addition to air suspension and adjustable M shock absorbers while both versions are equipped with a new stability control system that promises 10 times faster reactions than the usual conventional BMW systems.
BMW i4 eDrive40 version will have an electric motor mounted on the rear axle performance 340 horsepower where it can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.7 seconds while the maximum speed is set at 190 km/h. in order to ensure maximum autonomy. This in the case of the eDrive 40 version amounts to 590 km of range WLTP based.
The basic equipment of the BMW i4 will include a reversing camera, parking assistance system, automatic air conditioning system and ambient lighting. The eDrive 40 version will wear 17- or 18-inch wheels, sporty leather steering wheel and technoderma and Alcantara linings. The i4 M50 features a sharper body-kit, sporty adjustable M suspension, electrically adjustable seats, mobile inductive charging system, head-up display as well as BMW’s semi-autonomous driving system, Driving Assistant.
