Vietnam’s first electric car coming in 2022

Vietnam’s first car maker, VinFast, said Monday that it has opened offices in North America and Europe, aimed at attracting customers interested in smart electric cars.

VinFast is a unit of Vietnam’s largest Vingroup JSC (VIC.HM) group where it became the country’s first fully manufactured domestic automaker when gasoline models built under its own brand were released on the roads in 2019.

“VinFast has already established representative offices in five international markets and will soon open exhibitions in California,” Vingroup said. The company also announced that two electric car models, the VF e35 and VF e36, will be officially released in March next year, with a target of selling 56,000 electric vehicles in 2022.

The company was founded in 2017 by Vingroup and designed its models with the help of Pininfarina, BMW and Magna Steyr and participated in the Paris motor show in 2018. VinFast claims to be the first car manufacturer in Vietnam’s volume, as well as the first Vietnamese automaker to participate in a major international car show.
