Honda released the U-GO an affordable electric scooter through the Wuyang-Honda joint venture in order to accelerate its expansion into this highly popular two-wheeled category where their home is the big cities.
Honda U-GO is an extremely affordable electric scooter and the Japanese company announced two versions where they will have different speeds and power levels. But there is also a weaker model with an electric motor at 800 W while at full power it delivers 1.2 kW. As expected the top speed is lower than the previous version reaching 43 km/h (27 mph). Also for longer range is offered a dual-capacity battery on both models the battery is removable.
The drivetrain also offers a maximum range of 65km, which can be doubled to 130km if the second battery is fitted. However, with the addition of the second battery the rider will have reduced storage space under the seat.
The big surprise though comes from the price since with just 7,499 RMB (US$1,150) anyone in the Chinese market can acquire an electric scooter named Honda. Compared to higher-class smart scooters, such as those manufactured by leading electronics company NIU, the Honda U-GO comes at less than half the price.
