New Solid State batteries will revolutionize electric cars
The new Solid State battery technology is the most important for the future of electric vehicles since it combines many advantages over lithium-ion batteries. Car manufacturers are giving more and more funds now for Solid State batteries and it will come as no surprise to see this technology relatively quickly in production.
Although the energy density of lithium-ion batteries has doubled since 2014, manufacturers are well aware that these batteries have an expiration date when it comes to their placement in their electric models.

Japan’s Akira Yoshino, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2019, in a recent interview said that “the key to success for the future of batteries lies in electrolytes. So whoever creates solid-state batteries for mass-produced electric cars first will win the bet of electrification.”

But why is there so much talk about these kinds of batteries? First of all, this technology offers the important trump card of greater range. Their storage capacity is significantly greater than that of lithium-ion batteries.. There are manufacturers, such as Toyota and BMW, who claim to be twice as many without even taking up more space than lithium-ions.
A second and equally important advantage is their charging time. It is noticeably smaller than in today’s standards, with rumors saying that it is being halved.
The third advantage concerns their cost. Solid State batteries require fewer quantities of lithium, cobalt, magnesium, nickel or magnesium, which means that the financial burden will be less for both manufacturers and the buying public.
Also, solid-state batteries offer higher levels of safety. Since liquid and flammable electrolytes are absent, the risk of contact with the hot parts of the car in the event of an accident is reduced. Last and perhaps most important advantage of solid state batteries concerns the environment.
Since fewer raw materials are required for their manufacture, with the lifespan of these batteries being longer and their materials fully recyclable, the ecological footprint of electric models will now be greener during the production process as well.
