Dakar Rally: 1-2 for the electric Audi on the 8th special stage
2022 Dakar Rally continues with surprises after the best time was achieved by Mattias Ekstrom / Emil Bergkvist with the electric Audi RS Q e-tron, completing the 395 km. in 3 hours, 43 minutes and 21 seconds. It was the second win on a special stage for the Audi electric race and the first for the 43-year-old Swede in the competition.
Stephane Peterhansel / Edouard Boulanger (+49 sec) finished in 2nd place, completing 1-2 for Audi. Third were Sebastien Loeb / Fabian Lurqouin with Bahrain Raid Xtreme’s Prodrive Hunter T1+ (+3:08). “I enjoyed driving and Emil was fantastic in his navigation duties. The car is really good and I’ve started to feel comfortable with the suspension setup. But we need to develop the RS Q e-tron and more, as it is a car that does its first racing kilometers,” Ekstrom said.

“At some point we lost the drive on the rear axle and the Hilux was essentially front-wheel drive. We will have to see with our engineers why this happened, as only yesterday this particular rear differential was installed. The race is not over and we should respect the Dakar Rally,” Al-Attiyah noted.
“We pushed from the beginning of the special, but we had a puncture. But as we later found that we had lost the spare tire, I drove carefully at the end of the day. The navigation was good, so he doesn’t make mistakes on the special route,” Loeb commented.
The next special route on the morning of Tuesday, January 11, around wadi Ad Dawasir, is 287 kilometers long.
