An electric race car Audi is making history in the famous Dakar Rally since it looks extremely competitive but at the same time until now and very reliable.
Audi, driven by the Spanish racing driver, Carlos Sainz, wins for the first time in the history of the institution a special route with an electric vehicle. The Audi RS Q E-Tron is equipped with three electric motors and a gasoline engine, which is used to charge the batteries.

The strains on electric vehicles are great during the Dakar Rally, where conditions for electric motors are not only favourable, but this victory marks the great development that has occurred in this area and is a milestone for electromobility.
Spaniard Carlos Sainz, co-led by his compatriot Lucas Cruz, driving an RS Q e-tron, won the third special stage of this year’s Dakar Rally.
On the same special stage, the other two RS Q e-trons with Stéphane Peterhansel/Edouard Boulanger and Mattias Ekström/Emil Bergkvist finished in 3rd and 5th place respectively, completing a unique triumph for Audi.

The combination of the petrol engine with the electric ones gives a clear advantage to the Audi car in cases of longer journeys, or in emergency situations during which the autonomy of the batteries drops rapidly.
On the other hand, Carlos Sainz’s RS Q E-Tron can in no way be powered by its petrol engine, which operates exclusively as a generator.
